PackagingThe packaging for this figure is in the signature NECA clamshell packaging. Some people are a fans of it and some people aren’t.
I like it most of the times as long as the background looks nice. This one looks pretty good and definitely gives the feeling of the game. The yellow/green color is the same as what is used on the front of the Left 4 Dead 2 video game.On the back of the packaging you see some art with the figure and then a bio for Smoker. The text reads:The Smoker mutates into a tall skinny Special Infected. While his constant hacking produces smoke that makes him an easy target, his whip-like tongue is a lethal threat.
It travels quickly over great distances to pull his victims back towards him.Always remember that if your teammate is grabbed by the Smoker, shoot the tongue to free the Survivor. Just remember, it will not kill the Smoker so you will still have to hunt him down.
That becomes his real danger, always above you on the rooftops pecking away at your team.Out of The BoxOut of the box this figure was an instant disappointment. I was expecting more. His paint is all glossy and looks kind of like a 2-year-old painted it.
I am a huge zombie fan and the preview that NECA put out made me NEED this figure. But now I am kind of mad that I bought him (just a little). He definitely gives you the feeling that he is a zombie since he is tall and slim. He stands about 8″ tall on the dot. His clothes all look great it is just the gloss on his skin, its dreadful. He comes with 2 accessories if you will. They are poseable because they have wires inside of them. One measures 3.25″ long and the other one is 6″ long.
They are pretty cool, though it would have been nice if the holes on the back of them could have been covered up.ArticulationFor articulation this figure has:. Swivel/hinge shoulders.
Swivel/hinge elbows. Ball joint wrists.
Ab crunch. Swivel at the waist. Ball joint hips. Ball joint knees. Pivot anklesAll of the joints seem to work pretty nicely. Notably the hips, knees, and ankles work very nicely.
They are very easy to use and pose. His left arm is very slightly limited a bit more than his right, due to that large tumor. It is nothing major though. It would have been nice to have a head joint and it really kind of sucks without one. That is really the only other thing I could want when it comes to articulation on this figure.PaintThe paint on this figure is what I hate the most. It is glossy and doesn’t look very appealing at all. I think that if they removed the gloss everything would look great. I understand that they were trying to make him look slimy, but he just looks crappy.I think that the tumor could also benefit from other colors of paint to make it look more realistic. He has blood drips and stains all over his pants and shirt like any zombie should.
The way they painted the jeans make this zombie pretty styling. He could fit into any modern-day night club.Overall though, this paint job is a major disappointment. This guy is lucky he has bad ass articulation. SculptThe sculpt is pretty good for a zombie.
The tumor looks pretty gross and if the paint was spot on it would look amazing. The tongues kind of look like worms to me. They are even shiny like worms are. I really like the slimness of the body, it really gives you the zombie feeling. His pants around his hip area and his shirt are separate from the body. This allows for the articulation to function better. Which it does. The leg articulation is great.
NECA hid the pivot ankle joints perfectly but still allow for full range of motion.I like the sculpt for the most part and I think that it would really shine if it had better paint apps.OrderingUPDATE: eBay is your best bet for finding this figure.Click this link to: Do you have questions about the NECA Left 4 Dead Smoker Zombie Figure Review?
